Mauritius and the Seychelles are Africa’s best-governed countries, while war-torn Somalia and Sudan are the worst, according to 2009 Index of African Governance, which used 57 indicators.
Cape Verde was rated as the third-best governed country, followed by Botswana. The top four rankings were unchanged from last year.
South Africa, which has the continent’s largest economy, slipped to ninth place from fifth.
Nigeria and Angola, Africa’s two largest oil producers, were rated 36th and 48th respectively.
