Billions of dollars are on the line for thousands of black farmers. A lawsuit alleging years of discrimination has been settled. Now it’s up to the U.S. Senate to release the money to those farmers.

Thousands of black farmers who say they were unfairly denied loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
“We’ve been complaining about unfair lending practices at the Department of Agriculture and discrimination by farm service agency officials for years,” said John Boyd, President of the National Black Farmers Association.
The civil rights group filed a lawsuit on behalf of black farmers in the late 90s.
“The court has already found that there was great discrimination against African-American farmers,” said Sen. Mary Landrieu.
