Eighth grader named female Golf Digest Scholar of the Year

Honor student Bria Sanders, who has been playing golf since she was 3 years old, was the first African-American to win “Player of the Year” on both the Tennessee Golf Association Junior Tour and the US Junior Tour.

Sanders, an eighth-grader at Cordova Middle School, has been voted the female Golf Digest Scholar of the Year and has won a scholarship to Hank Haney’s International Junior Golf Academy at Hilton Head, S.C.

About 400 student-athletes submitted essays describing why they should be the Golf Digest Scholar of the Year.
